Stalker Types and Their Personality Disorders

Cyber Stalkers
A cyber stalker is someone who regularly haunts a particular web site, desperately trying to get their name and/or opinions in all the pages for fame and attention. It has come to my attention that stalkers are quite the attraction for net surfers. Some time ago, I got my first stalker. Her stalker skills were really quite poor so she has always made sure to reveal herself everytime she stalked her way into sites where I was. Basically Misery don't scare me and her death threats aren't even amusing. Misery has to live with herself and what's she's done for the rest of her life. (Taken from a source related the BSG Stalker Saga)

Rejected Stalkers
Rejected stalkers are intrusive and inordinately persistent. They recognize no boundaries – personal or legal. They honor to "contracts" and they pursue their target for years. They interpret rejection as a sign of the victim's continued interest and obsession with them. They are, therefore, impossible to get rid of. Many of them are narcissists and, thus, lack empathy, feel omnipotent and immune to the consequences of their actions.

Even so, some stalkers are possessed of an uncanny ability to psychologically penetrate others. Often, this gift is abused and put at the service of their control freakery and sadism. Stalking – and the ability to "mete out justice" makes them feel powerful and vindicated. When arrested, they often act the victim and attribute their actions to self-defence and "righting wrongs".

Stalkers are emotionally labile and present with rigid and infantile (primitive) defense mechanisms: splitting, projection, projective identification, denial, intellectualization, and narcissism. They devalue and dehumanize their victims and thus "justify" the harassment or diminish it. From here, it is only one step to violent conduct.

The Personality Disorders of Stalkers
Stalkers have narcissistic traits. Many of them suffer from personality disorders. The vindictive stalker is usually a psychopath (has Antisocial Personality Disorder). They all conform to the classic definition of a bully. Most of them are insistent. They regard themselves as unique, display a streak of grandiosity and a diminished capacity for empathy (the ability to appreciate and respect the needs and wishes of other people). They regard others as inferior to them, alienate them using umpteen techniques and bore them with their never-ending self-preoccupation. Thus, a sentence like "I am somebody and I deserve to be here" is a classic example of this. This proclaims that they really don't know how to function as a normal individual and must affirm for themselves that they are "validated".

They are manipulative and exploitative because they trust no one and usually cannot love or share. They are socially maladaptive and emotionally unstable.
Most personality disorders start out as problems in personal development which peak during adolescence and then become personality disorders. They stay on as enduring qualities of the individual. Personality disorders are stable and all-pervasive – not episodic. They remain in the same patterns, repeating their behaviour because they haven't any resolve to change their patterns.

The typical stalker is unhappy. He/she is depressed, suffers from auxiliary mood and anxiety disorders. He/she does not like himself, his character, his (deficient) functioning, or his (crippling) influence on others. But his/her defences are so strong, that he/she is aware only of the distress – and not of the reasons to it.

The stalker with a personality disorder is vulnerable to and prone to suffer from a host of other psychiatric problems. It is as though his/her psychological immunological system has been disabled by his/her personality disorder and he/she falls prey to other variants of mental illness. So much energy is consumed by the disorder and by its corollaries (example: by obsessions-compulsions, or mood swings), that the patient is rendered defenceless.

Patients with personality disorders are alloplastic in their defences. They have an external locus of control. In other words: they tend to blame the outside world for their mishaps. In stressful situations, they try to pre-empt a (real or imaginary) threat, change the rules of the game, introduce new variables, or otherwise influence the world out there to conform to their needs. This is as opposed to autoplastic defences (internal locus of control) typical, for instance, of neurotics (who change their internal psychological processes in stressful situations).

In Cluster B personality disorders (Narcissistic, Antisocial, Borderline, and Histrionic), the character problems, behavioural deficits and emotional deficiencies and lability encountered by patients with personality disorders are, mostly, ego-syntonic. This means that the patient does not, on the whole, find his/her personality traits or behaviour objectionable, unacceptable, disagreeable, or alien to his/herself.

The Narcissistic Stalker
The dramatic and erotomaniac stalker is likely to show one or more of these narcissistic traits:

Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation – or, failing that, wishes to be feared and to be notorious.

Behaves arrogantly and haughtily. Feels superior, omnipotent, omniscient, invincible, immune, "above the law", and omnipresent (magical thinking). Rages when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted by people he or she considers inferior to him or her and unworthy.

Constantly envious of others and seeks to hurt or destroy (or curse) the objects of his or her frustration. Suffers from persecutory (paranoid) delusions as he or she believes that they feel the same about him or her and are likely to act similarly.

Devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with, acknowledge, or accept the feelings, needs, preferences, priorities, and choices of others.
Feels entitled. Demands automatic and full compliance with his or her unreasonable expectations for special and favourable priority treatment.

Is obsessed with fantasies of power over everyone else.

All of these types of stalker, described above, can be attributed to Misery. It's all familiar territory with what people have witnessed when dealing with her.

How To Be An Effective Stalker

This, Misery has taught us all. We now know what a stalker is, exactly. We would have never known what a stalker was if it wasn't for Misery. Here are her own methods:

How to be an effective Stalker

Arrogance is the key, you must believe you are the gift to this earth.

Be an effective user, you should have at least 10 random people who don't even know you, supporting you.

Whine alot, show what a good victim you are!

When you feel that your *true* self has shown though... that's when the stalking part kicks in.

Good timing is a must! Try the squatters method first, stake your claim on your stalkee's house, website, profile, etc! If your stalkee's calls the police... resist!!! Run upstairs, or to imaginary detectives, mafia bosses and imaginary friends, and force them to chase you! Don't give in! You have claimed this house, website, etc. to be your own!

Whine as the police, administrators, and such physically remove you from your stalkee's home, website, etc.

Find another home to squat at. Continue your stalking from that home, website, etc. Harass your stalkee's all night long... if your stalkees' ignores your email, IMs and dozens of abusive profiles at MySpace, Yahoo or other networks, create new ones - don't give in!

Write everyone you know (including a celebrity) whining about your online name (on the stalkee's website) being deleted. Just for being a nasty troll and trying to have her thrown out of her own house, website, etc! Such an injustice!

Call your stalkee's at all hours of the day and night, leave dirty messages... but use *some* creativity! Your stalkee's should be hurt, not amused at your immature attempt (and record it for all to laugh at)!

Continue to whine of your unfair treatment to everyone you know. Ignore the fact that they are tired of your victim stories! Never give up! Your psychotic personality is your only friend.

Never admit that you were wrong! (You may just start to believe it)!
